Last week in Harlem Summer, Randy came by and said that he was not going to be able to be my friend anymore because of his parents. Mark's mom told him he had to make up his mind about the funural business. Mark said he was thinking about what he wanted to do. He talked things over with his brother. He went to the barber shop to get my hair cut and messed around and asked if anyone knew where bumpy lived. They said he should not get messed up with him.

Mark found out from his brother that Fats owed everybody money. Mark thought Fats could pay half the money because he had a job. Mark wanted a better paying. At work Mark thought of many jobs. He came up writing a book. He asked Mr. Hugh's about it, he said, He never saw a rich negro writer." So Mark went on to trying to write poems. Ms. Fauset didn't think my poem was so good.Mark went to a rent part. Thats when you have a party and charge for the food, whiskey and music. It looked like they were having fun. Mark knew as soon as he heard the the music that Fats was there. Mr. Hughes came in. He told Mark this is the life! This what ives Harlem it's pulse. When Fats took a brake Mark told him about Dutch.

After coming to the party and seeing yet another side of life, Mark decided what he wanted to do with his life. He wanted to play at Jazz clubs and rent parties. At the party Fats introduced Mark to Bumpy Johnson.
